Rethink Patriotism

By Pixel at June 10, 2005 at 5:29 am. Filed in advocacy, seriously now, thought experiment

Some further things everyone should rethink. Preferably with a guide of some sort who’s thought this through before or who disagrees with you about everything:

  • Patriotism
  • Love
  • God
  • Piety
  • Religion, Creationism Myths, and Human Psychology
  • Eating Meat
  • Eating Sugar
  • Buying from Wal-Mart and similar corporations
  • Death and the “After-life”
  • Energy and Motion
  • Marriage, Sex, Abortion, Stem-Cell Research, and euthanasia
  • Holy Books (all Holy Books) and Fundamentalism
  • “Rights”
  • Truth
  • Language
  • Beauty
  • Perspectives
  • Knowledge
  • Right and Wrong
  • Ethics versus Morality
  • Reason versus Faith
  • Life, the Universe, and Everything
  • 42

There’s a specific reason I put all of those up there. *sigh* If only people could read my mind…

  1. *sigh* you could tell us… or you could spend your years trying and trying to make a mind reading device till your own mind is so shot the machine wouldn’t be able to help people read it anyways.

  2. Nah, I’d prefer to leave it to the imagination.

Alternatively, if I did decide to tell you, it’d be a two hour diatribe for each bullet point on there and it’d take you two or three repetitions before you’d be able to let go of pre-conceived notions.

That’s not an insult to you or anyone in particular, it’s just that it took me years to get to the frame of mind I have now. And many of my beliefs were so hard to accept I just avoided thinking about them for months at a time. Life is more like it seems than it seems… ;-þ
