Don’t have a COW, man

By Pixel at November 2, 2005 at 5:24 pm. Filed in thought experiment

Assuming the “Coalition of the Willing” (hereafter referred to as “COW”) pulled out of the war in Iraq, would that make the war a loss?

Historically, people might say that the initiators pulling out means that they felt they were losing so they cut their losses, but does it really mean that?

Suppose Ex_Cal and moofruot start a fight with Seth and Eggo. Now, because Ex_Cal and moofruot kickass, they manage to whoop Seth and Eggo into submission in a matter of minutes. Then they decide to help them up. And they walk them to the hospital, despite the fact that Seth and Eggo are still throwing punches. If Ex_Cal and moof pulled out and left them to get to the hospital themselves, would that be declaring defeat?

Why does the analogy change when we think about it in the small scale?

If COW pulled out of “Operation Iraqi Freedom” (hereafter called “OIF”), would that be a declaration that the message behind OIF was false or would that just be COW pulling out?

To wit, if you ask me whether I’ve slept with your girlfriend and I refuse to answer, does that mean yes, no, or simply that I refused to answer?

Logically, it means the latter and the former are logical fallacies, but just because something is fallacious does not make it false.

hmm… Apparently the Plat Sock has a website. Who knew?

  1. My latest blog entry has a little mention of you again, on my “top 10 signs you’re a Greenie liberal”. Hope you like it (probably not).

  2. Stop your whining, Greenie. I’m not interested. I’ll keep slapping you until you’re red in the cheeks, because you and your ilk deserve it.

  3. The link is here, if anybody wants to read his actual words.

I’m #6… apparently: “You’re pissed off when people serve you meat, but you act surprised when people blast you for wanting to enforce veganism on your future innocent babies.”

Though to tell you the truth, #4 is more accurate: “You get mad when anyone says you think other animals are more important than people, but you cheer when hunters or animal researchers die.”

Except I don’t actually get mad. I accept the attack and if the person cares to debate, I mention some of what I discuss in this post.

I love being the good guy for once.

  4. Pixelation, I don’t give you ANY respect. I think you and people like you belong in jail. I don’t want to hear what you have to say. I want nothing to do with you except to denounce you.

The fact that you are an atheist and thus associated with me in a tenuous way is very sad. Fortunately I am an individualist and thus do not feel responsible for your sick, twisted mind.

Do you really cheer when hunters and animal researchers die ? You are even more disgusting than I thought.

  5. *ahem*

    Yes.

Human death is tantamount to a decrease in overall pain in the world.

If humans weren’t around to log forests, make plastic, raise animals for food, and pollute the skies and land, there would be a lot less pain in the world.

Just because I have no active feelings of remorse over actions I can’t control, however, doesn’t mean I go out of my way to cause them.

Nevermind. You’re not worth worrying about. I stand by the 98% rule.

  6. Hypocrite. You accuse me of being a fascist for censoring your hate speech, but you sure don’t mind preaching the abuse of the defenseless, you sicko. You don’t deserve ANY respect.

  7. My ‘hate’ speech? I went on your blog, mentioned how every item on your dreary list was just so many Straw Man arguments and you delete my comments.

My beliefs are my own. I never went on your blog to attack yours or even defend mine. I just went on to tell people that I’m a real person and I could defend my position should anyone choose to question it.

You, on the other hand, keep coming back here and attacking me for no reason other than because I would raise a hypothetical child in a manner you deem to be malnutritious.

You don’t mind the fact that I admit it’ll be hard but maintain it is possible. You just attack me for something you assume and don’t bother to read up on.

  10. I don’t doubt you or Eggo’s awesomeness, I just doubt your kickass abilities.

    Ex_Cal kicks ass.

    Quite literally.

I’d be quite afeared to run into him in a dark alleyway.
