Measuring love

By Pixel at January 30, 2007 at 10:32 pm. Filed in projekts

And I don’t mean ‘measuring love’ in a naughty way. I don’t have a tape measure handy, anyway.

XOXOXO

As you might recall from my 2007 post, I am trying to hug 150 different people this year. January is almost over and I am 1/6th of the way to my goal. If this graph of two bears carressing is accurate, I will reach 150 by June and surpass the world hug total by December 2012 (151).

p.s. Does anybody have any quips to submit to the WTF Carnival, because if not, I’m going to end up just posting a goodie grab bag.

Culture skirmishes

By Pixel at January 20, 2007 at 6:24 pm. Filed in slice of life

I witnessed my best friend break up with his three-year fiancée yesterday. She cried for hours while he was there then called him crying. Twice. At five in the morning.

This is the story, as short as I can tell it:

She moved from México to New Mexico (it was a short trip) to study fashion design. Shortly after arriving, she met my friend and they started dating.

About a year into the dating, she had problems with her host family and my friend offered to help her out by moving in with her. This caused lots of internal problems for her because she was Catholic and thought it was a sin to live with a boy before getting married. He’s an atheist and thinks it’s stupid to not live with someone before you get married. The home situation worsened and forced her to move in with him on the condition they eventually get married. He agreed.

Back to school

By Pixel at January 17, 2007 at 8:51 pm. Filed in note to self

Tomorrow is a full day.  Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign and Typography followed by five hours of work then Macromedia Flash.

Boy, Uni is so much more fun once you’ve graduated and only have to worry about being found out that you’re not enrolled in any classes.

Free books, OMFG!

By Pixel at January 13, 2007 at 9:16 pm. Filed in a pixelated mind, slice of life

I’ve been teaching myself HTML (and XHTML and CSS) for a few days now, only I accidentally lost the book I’m using to teach myself.

Then, today, I went to the library and they had a free HTML book available outside. They had four, actually.

Noting the serendipity, I perused the other titles: Javascript for the World Wide Web, CSS and Adobe Go Live 6.0.

Now, CSS and XHTML go together, so it was a given that I’d also take that book, and Javascript is just friggin’ cool.

The only book I didn’t really want was the Go Live book. Because– although I have the program — I have never used it. However, I felt really bad that I took every book but that one, so I brought it home too.

:)

I bet I would have done that for every book. Heck, I would have done that for anything. If I were buying puppies and the last one had the face of my grandmother, I’d tough it out and take it home too.

I just hope nobody takes advantage of me. . . any more so than the library did today. Heck, I bet that’s how they get rid of all the books they don’t want: by packaging them with other, better books.

p.s. WTF is back. Check here February for new quips. You can also send me whatever funny ideas have crossed through your mind in the past year.

Moof is such a doll

By Pixel at January 13, 2007 at 2:43 pm. Filed in commentary, odes

I mailed Moofruot a $1 Family Dollar doll.

I know it’s been a year since she mailed me a sock, but it’s been a busy year. Besides, I thought about what to send her for so long that nothing seemed random anymore, so I just went shopping and let ‘my little pal‘ call out to me.  The fact that it says ‘$1′ right on it is what makes it, I think.

Ha ha.

Moof is so awesome.  If I had $1 million, I’d send her one million dolls.

Although I’m sure it would be pretty hard to explain to the IRS that I really did give a $1 million dollar gift of dolls.
