Smiles at misfortune

Life?

Atlas Shrugged

Over the past week, my friend Sandy and I drove across the country. In that time we’ve met very, very courteous people, received two speeding tickets ($360, thank you Texas), ate at White Castle, saw Dave Chapelle and figured out the mysteries of life. We also got to know each other really well. I think that’s why Sandy’s avoiding me now.

I quit my job to go on this trip, but I needed the respite to find myself. I’ve decided not to keep working in my field in New Mexico. In case you’re wondering, I recently graduated University with a journalism degree (and a far more valuable roll of 2-ply toilet paper). For the past six months, I’ve been a graphic designer for the Las Cruces Bulletin.

The major reason I decided to quit was that I was afraid of waking up thirty years from now and feeling like I’d never lived. Hopefully, this trip will help me find out what I really want to do (as you’ll see over the next few posts).
So now I’m in Pennsylvania visiting some old friends. In two weeks I shall be in New Jersey for the same reason. I’m going to continue my soul searching until. . . Oh, wait, nevermind. I just found it. It was hiding under a sock.

  1. You want to come back to Australia.

It’s called a dislocation of place. You’re looking for home somewhere that everybody is calling ‘home’.

But you know where home is.

    It’s back here.
