Teen charged in crime spree

DURHAM — Brandon Lee Hawkins, 18, of 2918 Pervis Road was arrested by Durham police Saturday on a variety of charges, all stemming from an alleged weekend crime spree.

Hawkins is accused of breaking and entering, theft and possession of stolen goods, all at the felony level, for allegedly stealing an iPod, Apple computer and DVD player worth $1,800 at 924 Carolina Ave.

He was also charged with common-law robbery for allegedly taking $40 from a male whom he supposedly punched in the face. That incident led to a separate simple assault charge.

Hawkins is further charged with felony theft and possession of an automobile after allegedly taking a 1990 Chevy pickup. He is accused of three counts of attempting to break into a Lexus, a Nissan and a Volkswagen.

The defendant was ordered held on an $11,000 secured bond.
