Personality Crushes

Have you ever met one of those people that you just can’t get enough of?  They may not be the funniest or the smartest or the most charming, but you’re always excited when you see them and always enjoy talking to them?

I don’t mean general friends here.  I love hanging out with my friends.  When I need to see a movie or a ride to the airport, they’re always there.  I enjoy the time I spend with them and look forward to events that will bring us together in the future.  But these people are people that you begin to miss when they’re not around.  People that make your life warmer and so you want to seek them out constantly.  I call them personality crushes.

I’ve met a few people like that in my life.  Some have been my friends and I lived with one once, but mostly they’re just friendly acquaintances you can’t see all that often.  There might be a correlation with that: if you saw them enough you’d be more likely to stop thinking of them as special.  But I think the biggest factor is the fact that almost all of the people we’ve ever met aren’t in our current social circle.   So there’s a lot of lame people you don’t see anymore, but there’s also a few of these personality crushes.

I always wonder about whether I’m someone else’s personality crush.  I mean, I know I have been.  People have told me almost as much in the past.  But because I didn’t have a word for it then, I just smiled and went on with my life.  Which sucks, if you think about it, because that means that I don’t often reciprocate other people’s personality crushes.

I guess that’s the way the numbers have to work out.  It just sucks that that’s the case, doesn’t it?

Things I wish I could say to people, but can’t (pt. XI of XXVI)

Hm.  I’m starting to think I should delete a lot of these people’s numbers if I have such low opinions of them.  Actually.  This series is pretty much depressing me.

• You’re quirky and cool, but not as much as you seem to think.  I love being around you, but not for very long.
• You should clean up after yourself more.
• Pretty much all of the photographers had a crush on you, you realize this, of course?  I only took photos part time, though, so mine was only a part-time crush.
• When I look at cows in the eyes, I see no glimmer of intelligence and it makes me sad…  I don’t know why I said that, I really meant to say something meaningful about you, but got bored before I even began.
• It makes me sad you got married.  Not because you rushed into it, though I know you did, just because I didn’t get a chance to ask you out before then.

The SPAM-bots are out en masse.  I’m seriously considering turning off comments.  I hate it when other places do that, but….  I seriously have to delete comments every day.

Things I wish I could say to people, but can’t (pt. X of XXVI)

Nobody will get this unless you happen to know a little too much about this particular person.

• I love everything about you.  I liked you better when you were younger, but I equally enjoy your prank-playing future self.  I guess you could lose a little weight and gain a little muscle.  Maybe read, write, and draw more.  Or maybe you could just finish any of the things on your to do list.  That said: you’re such an awesome person.  I’m glad I am know you.  You make me a better person.
