Impressive, yet shockingly irrelevant

87. I’m afraid of waiters, secretaries, and janitors. Seriously. They have so much power over such a small area of your life that I fear angering them.

83. I’ve gone to the ER far more times than I’d care to remember. But I’ve never stayed overnight at a hospital. Doctors scare me.

69. I sometimes start projects knowing I’ll never finish them.  But I’ve haven’t fallen through on a promise since the last millennium.

Here you go!  It’s a comic we’re working on that’s based on a column we once worked on that I alluded to here.

Mieke, the ambiguously foreign character is on the left.
Joey, the ambivalently heterosexual character is on the right.

I think the mustache is what makes it hilarious.

Art by Alethea Barton,
original characters by Jonathan B. Trust,
other stuff by me.

Ghost in the Machine

62. Every time I go somewhere, I have to carry books, a laptop, a notebook, or anything else. I have to. It’s my way to never forget stuff: I just make sure there’s always something to remember.

It's actually a Descartes reference.. sort of

This is supposed to illustrate the philosophical problem of the ‘ghost in the machine,’ which basically says that, if natural explanations can be given for everything, then the supernatural explanation for agency is superfluous. So, basically, I used the word ’soul’ because it meant more people would understand it… sort of. Anyway, sorry, I posted this at 11:58:39 last night from my laptop in my car off borrowed Internet. I was in a bit of a hurry. :-)

A Pixelated Novel

NaNoWriMo is coming up… And for the first time eve, I’m going to take part.

Starting November 1, I will be frantically writing a story in the hopes of reaching 50,000 words by December. This means that in November, I might not be updating this blog very often… in other words, back to my 2006 business plan.

To get myself ready for this journey, I’ve written an outline, coaxed my friends into writing forewords and prefaces, issued a word-count challenge to a friend, set aside a month of errands and just generally talked about it so much that I won’t be able to back down later.

I even designed a logo and built a Web site for the future site of the novel. I’m planning on having it online as I write it so that people can taunt me or offer me advice if they feel like it. Let me know if you want to be an extra (most of the cool characters are taken, but you can be a TV anchor or something).

I’ve had this idea for three years now.  I’m really excited about this and you would be too if I’d told you my ideas for the plot, but I can’t do that without giving away too much of it.. Just trust me, I think you’ll like it, I know I will.
